Overview
A growing consultancy firm is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead projects, mentor junior staff, and work closely with clients. The role combines technical design, team leadership, and client engagement with opportunities for career progression.
Responsibilities
* Manage and deliver electrical designs across all project phases.
* Mentor and support team members to ensure technical growth and consistency.
* Oversee QA/QC to maintain design quality and compliance.
* Provide ad-hoc design input where required.
* Maintain strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
* Carry out arithmetical checks and independent design checks of other engineers' designs.
* Supervise and guide engineers to complete documentation accurately and efficiently.
* Take responsibility for the accuracy and quality of electrical design outputs.
* Mentor, coach, and support the professional development of team members.
* Drive team performance to meet project deadlines through effective leadership and planning.
* Coordinate with internal staff to manage workflow and resource allocation.
* Lead internal and external project meetings, including preparing and distributing minutes and reports.
* Maintain and grow relationships with key clients through regular engagement.
* Prepare concept designs, detailed documentation, and tender/construction packages aligned with client requirements and project briefs.
* Conduct value engineering (VE) exercises on projects; design with value in mind.
* Oversee QA/QC processes to ensure high-quality deliverables.
* Ensure designs are in line with the relevant Australian standards and Building Code of Australia/NCC.
* Understand and adhere to the scope outlined in signed fee proposals; flag and document variations as required, including discussions with the client.
* Manage project coordination with other disciplines and consultants.
* Update the Job Management System daily with project progress and billable hours.
* Adhere to and enforce company policies, procedures, and systems.
Project Lead Responsibilities
* Manage all client-facing correspondence, taking ownership of communication and driving outcomes for all parties involved.
* Lead the project team, including coordination with all required disciplines (e.g., mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, etc.).
* Initiate and lead a project kick-off meeting to ensure all team members clearly understand the scope, deliverables, and project expectations.
* Ensure the team understands the scope defined under the signed fee proposal and capture any out-of-scope items as variations.
* Negotiate project milestones and due dates with internal staff and the client to ensure alignment and accountability.
* Organise and lead all internal and external meetings, ensuring the right stakeholders are present and outcomes are documented.
* Maintain oversight of project timelines, budgets, and client satisfaction.
* Consolidate internal RFIs/TQs across all disciplines (where practical) before issuing to the client to ensure clarity and reduce fragmented communication.
* Take responsibility for overall project compliance and quality assurance (QA).
* Manage all correspondence related to documentation received or issued by clients, architects, structural engineers, and other relevant parties.
Required Qualifications
* Tertiary qualifications in electrical engineering – minimum bachelor's degree in engineering.
* CPEng, NER certifications will be highly regarded.
Experience
* Minimum 10 years post-graduate experience working within building services consultancy.
* Experience in managing, coaching, and mentoring a team.
* Strong project management and multidisciplinary services coordination.
Skills
* Proficient in electrical design calculations (lighting, maximum demand, and cable calculations).
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
