BUSINESS UNIT OVERVIEW
The Engagement and Wellbeing Support Services Branch is responsible for the policy, strategic planning, and management of school support for student wellbeing, including the provision of allied health services.
The Branch provides direct support for individual students, and support to classroom teachers and school leadership teams designed to build the capacity of schools and contribute to the achievement of improved student outcomes. The Branch leads key policy for student wellbeing and works closely with schools to ensure students access and participate in education. The Branch works closely with other government directorates, families and external agencies and providers.
The Engagement and Wellbeing Support Services Branch provides school psychology services, allied health service, and youth and social worker services to support schools in addressing barriers to student engagement and learning. The Branch is also responsible for delivery of key government commitments and provides policy and service design across a range of topics including the Safe and Inclusive Schools initiative, Health Promotion and Meals at School, Period Products Trial, immunisation program, dental clinics, vaping, Sun Safe, uniforms, headlice and suspensions. The Branch is also responsible for the Flexible Education offerings including Muliyan, Hospital School, Murrumbidgee, the Cottage and Distance Education.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Engagement and Wellbeing Support Services Branch is seeking two high performing individuals to lead the work of the Wellbeing and Inclusion Team. The Wellbeing and Inclusion Team are responsible for developing innovation in wellbeing, and inclusion policy and programs and designing evidence-based strategies to support schools to be safe, inclusive learning environments, supporting equity and growth for all students.
Our ideal applicant will have highly developed written communication skills and demonstrated ability to prepare quality submissions, briefs, reports and other correspondence on complex and sensitive issues, as well as demonstrated understanding of the business of government.
The ability to develop and maintain strong and effective working relationships through highly developed interpersonal skills is also vital for this role.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILTIES
In accordance with Directorate policies and dependent on the specific role:
* Coordinate and develop programs, policies and projects delivered by the Branch in line with the Directorate policy objectives.
* Provide advice and prepare strategic and complex submissions, papers, briefs and correspondence, with reference to local and national priorities and context.
* Coordinate research and analysis of data and provide high quality advice to inform on issues relevant to the Branch, including evidence-based approaches to support inclusion and wellbeing across the Directorate.
* Manage relationships with stakeholders to ensure the Branch utilises informed and innovative policy and strategies relevant to education.
* Use well-developed liaison and communication skills to negotiate, communicate, collaborate and influence stakeholders when representing the Directorate.
* Work responsively and flexibly to changing priorities in a dynamic policy and Ministerial environment.
* Utilise sound human resource management and have demonstrated personnel management skills and the ability to apply equal employment opportunity principles, occupational health and safety procedures and industrial guidelines.
* Work in accordance with, and uphold the ACT government Respect, Equity and Diversity Framework and the Directorate's Work Health and Safety System.
Notes: There are one permanent and one temporary full-time positions available. The temporary position is available for a period of six months with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.
