The Role
For over 30 years, Coast Shelter's Community Centre and Restaurant has provided free meals, as well as personal, financial, legal and health support and care for the most vulnerable people in our community. The position is responsible for providing high quality and effective practical support for individuals within our community.
Key Responsibilities
• Welcoming and supporting clients who visit our Community Centre
• Ensuring a safe and comfortable environment is maintained during meal service
• Some manual handling is required, this includes:
• Lift, manoeuvre and store of food supplies
• Perform general cleaning duties
• Set up of rooms and activity spaces
• Work alongside volunteers, assisting in the kitchen as required
• Assist clients applying for No Interest Loans, Energy Accounts Payment Assistance etc
• Order food items and other supplies
• Assist in collection and entering of daily data and client notes
All about you
You have a background and passion for working in homelessness and domestic and family violence services. To be considered for the position you must be able to address the essential criteria below:
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in a related discipline, Certificate III level or higher and relevant industry experience
• Demonstrated understanding of child protection issues and client vulnerabilities such as drug and alcohol use, domestic violence, mental health issues, and the impact of trauma and the effect on behaviour and development
• The proven ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining a calm and professional approach, with consideration to professional boundaries
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, at times with limited supervision and work effectively within a team to achieve high level results
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including highly developed interpersonal skills with an ability to relate positively and confidently with a wide range of people, in a variety of settings.
