What is our Clinical Nurse Specialist -(Neurosurgery - Extended Hours) role?
The ClinicalNurse Specialist practises as a Senior Registered Nurse (SRN) inkeeping with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery BoardRegistration Standards and Nursing Practice Decision Flowchart;provides clinical leadership and management within theorganisation, clinical division and area(s) of responsibility;upholds and functions within the core values of the organisationand nursing values of Care, Respect, Innovation, Teamwork andIntegrity.
SCGH is thestatewide Neurosurgical Service for Western Australia, whichreceives referrals from all other health service providers acrossthe state. The inpatient Neurosurgical Service consists of a45 bedded unit constisting of two wards G52 and G66. Ward G52is a 27 bedded ward, including 9 bedded High Dependency Unit (HDU),which has the capability to extend to 11 beds. It provides care forpatients with intracranial pathologies including surgicalintervention of trauma, tumours, neurovascular lesions,abnormalities and interventional treatement in the Neurologicalintervention and imaging service of Western Australia(NiisWA). Ward G66 is an 18 bedded ward, including a 2 bedded(expanding to 4) Endovascular Neurointerventional Unit (ENU). Itprovides care for patients with spinal injury and diseasepathologies, deep brain stimulation treatement for movementdisorders and care after interventional treatement for unrupturedaneurysms.
Ward G52 and G66each has CNS cover Monday to Friday 0700 - 1500. Extended hours CNSsupports the Neurosurgical Service after hours between 1400 - 2130on weekdays and 0730 - 1530 on weekends and publicholidays.
