About Spatial Services
Spatial Services, part of the Department of Customer Service, is the NSW Government's central provider of spatial and land information services. We deliver essential data, mapping, surveying, and property information services that support critical state infrastructure, emergency response, environmental management, and the broader NSW community.
Our work underpins the Digital Cadastral Database (DCDB), statewide survey control networks, elevation products, imagery, and a broad range of spatial datasets used by government, industry and the public.
About the Role
As a Technical Surveyor, you'll play a key role in planning, collecting, and processing survey data that maintains NSW's fundamental survey control network. You'll support the production of topographic and surface data, imagery and elevation products, and the DCDB, contributing to robust and reliable spatial infrastructure for the entire state.
This role offers a blend of fieldwork, technical processing, problem‑solving and collaboration with a skilled survey team.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
* Maintain and improve the statewide Survey Control Network.
* Conduct surveys supporting products including POSI, imagery and elevation datasets, the DCDB, and topographic/surface data.
* Supervise small field parties to ensure safe and efficient data collection.
* Calibrate, adjust and maintain survey instruments to ensure accuracy.
* Use GNSS receivers, Total Stations and Electronic Levels to deliver high‑quality outcomes.
* Prepare reports that document accuracy results and project outcomes.
* Apply Work Health and Safety principles, conduct site risk assessments, and ensure best‑practice safety compliance.
* Solve complex technical issues, exercise initiative, and manage competing priorities with minimal supervision.
About You
To be successful, you will have:
* Tertiary qualifications in Surveying or an equivalent discipline.
* Demonstrated experience across cadastral, geodetic or positioning technologies.
* The ability to work independently in the field and manage multiple projects.
* Strong planning and project coordination skills.
* A current driver's licence and the ability to travel across NSW as required.
We're also looking for people who show resilience, customer focus, strong problem‑solving skills, and the ability to use a range of technologies to deliver high‑quality results.
Why Join Us?
In this role, you'll make a real impact by supporting the spatial infrastructure used across NSW. You'll join a collaborative, expert team committed to innovation, safety and excellence.
You'll also enjoy:
* Opportunities to broaden your technical surveying experience
* Supportive leadership with room to grow your skills
* Meaningful work that shapes NSW's future spatial systems
