The duties of the roles include, but are not limited to:
• working on topical issues critical for the future export of Australian animal products
• liaising, negotiating and effectively communicating with Australian and overseas government agencies, industry bodies and other internal and external stakeholders in support of technical market access
• providing technical veterinary advice and guidance on matters relating to animal health, biosecurity and food safety
• undertaking research and developing technical submissions and briefings in support of technical market access negotiations for Australian animal products
• representing the department during engagement with international trading partners and Australian industry
• providing input into the development of international standards for food trade
• undertaking research and responding to issues of establishment non-compliance.
Please note that this selection process will initially be used to fill several ongoing vacancies in the branch. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.

What we are looking for
Knowledge and experience
• A demonstrated understanding of Australia's food safety and/or animal health systems.
• Previous experience in agriculture trade or its management.
• A sound knowledge of Australian export legislation and its regulation of agricultural industries.
• An understanding of legislative frameworks and government decision-making processes and regulations.
Mandatory qualifications
To be considered for these positions you must have a veterinary degree from an Australian university or equivalent veterinary qualification recognised in Australia. You must be registered, or eligible for registration, with the relevant Australian state/territory veterinary board and you must maintain this registration whilst employed by the department.
