The Opportunity
As the Commercial Strategy Manager you will enhance and deliver the commercial and procurement strategy, through the evaluation, negotiation, execution and management of strategic and complex programs and projects across Hunter Water, applying best practice risk and commercial management practices that are fit for purpose and provide value for money.
What You'll Do
* Develop and deliver commercial and procurement strategies for complex programs, including contract models, negotiation mandates, KPI frameworks and risk‐appropriate commercial artefacts that ensure value for money and best‐practice outcomes.
* Ensure governance, probity and compliance, actively monitoring alignment with Hunter Water's Probity Policy and NSW Procurement/Treasury requirements while managing liability, intellectual property and financial risk through well‐crafted contracts.
* Engage, influence and collaborate with stakeholders, supporting strategic planning, shaping program and project‐level commercial approaches, and enabling favourable contractual decisions through strong commercial insight.
* Monitor market conditions and supplier performance, resolving contract issues, capturing lessons learned, and keeping the organisation informed on risks, opportunities and emerging commercial models.
* Provide end‐to‐end tender and procurement support, including documentation development, evaluation and clarifications, while preparing accurate, timely and auditable commercial reporting for senior management and governance forums.
Essential Criteria
* Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commercial Law, Project Management or related field
* Comprehensive background in creating contract models and delivering successful contract management outcomes at a senior level with a strong sense of business ethics and probity
* Demonstrated application of strategic sourcing and contracting across a range of categories
* Demonstrated experience in identifying and negotiating partnerships and strategic alliances to achieve outcomes
* Well-developed business/commercial acumen with a focus on customer service
* Demonstrated experience in leading teams to support complex problem solving and proactively challenging the status quo
Desirable Criteria
* Post Graduate qualifications in business, supply chain, commercial law or related field
* Relevant experience in project management or related field
* Experience in leading, coaching and mentoring high‐performing teams
* Experience in leading and directing strategic change
* Work Experience in a regulated environment, Utility or Government Sector
