About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Site Geotechnical Specialist to play a vital part in our mine planning and operational teams at one of our 4 Open Cut Mines in the Bowen Basin.
Key Responsibilities
* Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development.
* Provide leadership in identifying and managing geotechnical risks in mine design and execution.
* Conduct geotechnical stability assessments and deliver designs for tactical planning.
* Offer expert geotechnical advice to operational and planning teams to effectively manage hazards.
* Perform inspections and monitoring of active mining areas, issuing geotechnical hazard reports and instrumentation requirements.
* Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including the QLD Coal Mining Safety and Health Act and the QLD Professional Engineers Act.
* Continuously identify and implement opportunities for improvement in geotechnical practices.
As a proactive and autonomous professional, you will have a strong understanding of technical risk in an open-cut mining environment. Your robust analytical and report-writing skills will be complemented by your ability to maintain comprehensive data records.
Requirements
* A Bachelor's degree in geological engineering, engineering geology, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, or mining engineering.
* A minimum of 1.5 years of experience in an operational mine environment.
* At least 6 months of experience in mine geotechnical analysis and risk assessment, including slope design in soil, spoil, and rock.
* Exposure to Coal measure lithologies and mining practices is highly desirable.
* RPEQ status, or the ability to work towards it, will be viewed favourably.
* Working knowledge of Vulcan or Deswik, along with experience in Rocscience software and geotechnical monitoring equipment (radars, inclinometers, piezometers), would be beneficial.
