THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Histopathology & Biospecimen Manager, the Technician will be responsible for processing blood samples and performing general histology duties in a team and collaborative environment.
Salary: Up to $58, % super + salary packaging (depending on experience)
Employment Type: 1 year fixed-term contract with possibility to extend

WHAT YOU WILL DO
The key responsibilities include:
* Processing of blood samples collected as part of the biobanks and clinical trials
* Performing general histology such as: specimen reception, tissue processing and embedding, staining, microtomy, cryosectioning and immunohistochemistry.
* All general lab duties
* Working closely and effectively with small teams, planning and prioritising work to meet all commitments.
* The meticulous preparation and labelling of samples
* Strict adherence to Study Protocols
* Aliquoting and snap freezing of the blood samples
* Handling and maintenance of lab equipment
* Record Keeping
* Data entry and ensuring its accuracy onto a database
* Contributing to the writing of standard operating procedures and other manuals
* Assistance with research projects
* Assisting other Garvan facilities/labs if required
* Participating in training team and Precinct staff
General responsibilities (applicable to all levels):
* All staff are required to comply with Garvan's workplace policies (as amended from time to time) and especially Garvan's Work Health & Safety (WHS) Policy, including working per the WHS management system at all times, as safety is Garvan's number one priority.
ABOUT YOU
The key skills and experience include:
* TAFE or university degree in science, applied science, health or a health-related discipline
* Understanding of good laboratory practice guidelines
* Excellent computer and communication skills
* A strong commitment to quality and detail
* Demonstrate ability to work with limited supervision
* Ability to work in a team/collaborative environment
* Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and deadlines
