Job Summary
Bechtel is seeking a Senior Control Systems and Instrumentation (CS&I) Engineer for the Mining & Metals team. This role reports to the Control Systems & Instrumentation Engineering Group Supervisor and is responsible for the design and specification of general instrumentation, valves and DCS/PLC-based control systems. The CS&I engineering and design support will be provided to Bechtel projects with high quality and consistency.
This position will initially commence in Brisbane, before relocating to Helsinki, Finland on a 12 month short term assignment.
Major Responsibilities
* Material handling and process plant instrumentation design for small/medium/large size projects.
* Preparation, evaluation, and package engineering of Scope of Services for Plant Control Systems, Telecommunications and Instrumentation Packages for mining/processing plants.
* Preparation of study reports, scopes of work, equipment specifications, functional specifications and datasheets.
* Proposal preparation and cost estimates.
* Selection/specification of instrumentation in accordance with equipment datasheets.
* Design/modify panel layout, schematic wiring and termination diagrams for industrial control systems.
* Develop I&C schedules (cable, instrument, I/O, etc.).
* Develop changeover plans for brownfield control system upgrades.
* PLC and Remote IO control system design.
* Design/layout of plant control rooms; location/arrangement of DCS and other control cabinets within plant.
* Participate in design and hazard reviews; review supplier documentation to ensure project specifications are satisfied.
* Mentor and assist junior instrumentation and control system engineers.
Education and Experience
* Requires bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 10–13 years of relevant experience.
* Experience with functional safety systems and TUV certification is highly regarded.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* A degree in engineering, demonstrated experience and CPEng status and current RPEQ.
* Demonstrated experience in Control System/Instrumentation Engineering.
* Strong safety mindset and ability to comply with safety requirements.
* Design and engineering experience in mining, processing plant or oil and gas industries.
* Knowledge of industry/regulatory standards related to instrumentation and control systems engineering; ensure design compliance with standards and internal procedures.
* Effective communication with internal and external clients.
* Smart Instrumentation experience is favourable.
* Eligible to work in Australia without sponsorship.
