Research Fellow – Community and Spatial Ecology

Salary: Level A: $87,266 – $118,416 p.a. plus 17% superannuation

Role Overview
Lead a flagship large‐scale intertidal field experiment, develop cutting‐edge quantitative analyses of biodiversity patterns, and build an independent research profile within a high‐performing School of BioSciences program.
Responsibilities
* Design, implement, and manage day‐to‐day operations of a large‐scale intertidal field experiment.
* Analyse field‐collected data using quantitative and spatial techniques, and develop mechanistic models linking empirical patterns to ecological theory.
* Prepare high‐quality manuscripts, conference presentations, and reports for academic and broader audiences.
* Contribute to grant applications, supervise and mentor PhD and post‐doc students, and support collaborative projects.
* Engage with School activities, seminars, and outreach to promote diversity, inclusion, and public understanding of ecological science.
Qualifications
* Completed or near‐completed PhD in ecology or a closely related discipline.
* Strong experience designing and delivering field‐based ecological research, ideally in coastal, marine, or intertidal environments.
* Advanced quantitative skills, including proficiency in R and experience analysing complex field datasets with robust methods.
* Developing track record of peer‐reviewed publications and clear ambition to build an academic career.
* Excellent organisational and project‐management abilities, maintaining momentum from experimental planning to synthesis and publication.
* Commitment to collaborative, inclusive team environments and enjoyment of mentoring students and engaging with external partners.
