The Deputy Director of Allied Health and Support Services is an integral and highly valued role at Peter Mac. The role will work very closely with the Director of Allied Health and Support Services and will be primarily focussed on the operational delivery of Allied Health and Support Services at Peter Mac. We have a very collaborative Allied Health and Support Services leadership team and foster a culture of creativity and innovation. You will represent Allied Health and Support Services on a number of internal and external committees. The Deputy Director of Allied Health and Support Services will have the Allied Health Managers, the Support Services Manager and the Language Services Co-ordinator as direct reports.
The role also deputises for the Director of Allied Health and Support Services on relevant committees and as required during times of absence. You will work closely with all members of the Allied Health services and build strong relationships broadly both internally and externally to Peter Mac.
The Department
Peter Mac’s Allied Health Services comprise a number of Allied Health professions that provide patient centred care across all cancer types. Service delivery is across inpatients and outpatients. Some Allied Health staff are also located at our satellite sites.
In addition, our Support Services are compromised by our PSA department and kitchen staff. All departments work together to ensure best quality service delivery and outcomes for our patients, their carers and families.
The total size of the portfolio is currently approximately 155 EFT with an annual budget of $12.7 M.
About you
You will need:
-Tertiary qualifications in an Allied Health Therapy profession
-Current registration with AHPRA (if a registered profession) or be eligible for membership of your relevant professional association (if a non-registered profession)
-Relevant post-graduate qualifications in your profession, health services management, public health, health admin, research, education, informatics (or working towards)
-Extensive leadership and managerial experience across multiple Allied Health professions

Position Summary
Working closely in alignment with the Director of Allied Health and Support Services (DAHSS), the Deputy Director of Allied Health and Support Services (DDAHSS) is responsible for the operational requirements of Allied Health, including leadership and management of Allied Health Therapies (Nutrition, Speech Pathology, Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, Occupational Therapy, Spiritual Care, Social Work, Music Therapy, Art Therapy and Podiatry). In addition to Allied Health Therapies, there is also oversight of Language Services and Support Services (PSA and Kitchen staff) at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac).
The DDAHSS, will also be required to deputise for the DAHSS at times and fulfill aspects of the strategic focus of Allied Health.

1.Strategic
* Contribute to the development of strategic plans for Allied Health
* Operationalise strategic plans for Allied Health
* Contribute to the overall effectiveness of Peter Mac through engagement in organisational goal setting and strategic planning activities
* Working closely with the DAHSS, ensure an overarching Allied Health operational plan is developed that is:
* Responsive to the Organisations Strategic priorities. Allied Health departmental goals are identified, and action planning is an annual activity
* Coordinates the development of project establishment plans for new and innovative projects
* Represents Allied Health at operational meetings as required
* Prepares and publishes reports on progress against operational and projects plans as required

* Provide operational direction and works in alignment with DAHSS to ensure line management to Allied Health Therapy Departments. Works with Peter Mac models of care and strategic directions.

* Work closely with the DAHSS to contribute to workforce innovation, including model of care and multidisciplinary team structure

* Ensure that recruitment process is supported through strong liaison with the People and Culture department and senior managers
* Ensure that 100% of staff participate in an annual performance appraisal process and staff development programs are in place for all reporting staff
* Alternative workforce and workplace models (where appropriate) are explored and implemented accordingly
* Ensure that line staff are performing in accordance with our Values, code of conduct and within the parameters of their role and position description Staff issues are followed up in a timely fashion
* In conjunction with the DAHSS, escalate to the Executive Director People and Culture issues of behaviour, health or competence that constitute a risk to the individual, other staff or the Organisation

* Contribute to and maintain a system and processes for comparative information management and facilitate high level performance of direct reports and their departments
