ABOUT THE ROLE:
Based in Darwin, our Lodge Maintenance Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting and safeguarding the ongoing operations of Outback Spirit's eight remote lodges across Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and Queensland.
Our lodges offer high-end accommodation in breathtaking wilderness environments - each with its own unique charm, operational complexities, and maintenance needs. Your leadership, technical ability, and strategic oversight will ensure our assets operate safely, efficiently, and to the luxury standards expected by our guests.
You will oversee maintenance planning, contractor engagement, compliance management, and onsite works across all properties. Regular travel to remote lodges will be required for diagnostics, project oversight, and hands-on support to local Lodge Managers.
This role combines operational leadership, project management, and practical trade expertise to ensure our lodges remain exceptional, reliable, and ready to welcome guests.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational Leadership & Planning
* Provide operational maintenance support to lodge-based management and maintenance teams across all Outback Spirit properties.
* Manage preventative and scheduled maintenance programs to ensure reliability, safety, and seamless guest experiences.
* Respond promptly to maintenance requests to minimise disruption for guests and onsite staff.
* Travel to remote lodges for assessments, project planning, and hands-on support.
Technical & Project Delivery
* Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs across electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, structural, and other lodge assets (trade experience highly regarded).
* Conduct onsite assessments and provide clear, actionable recommendations.
* Oversee the execution of maintenance projects within budget and timelines.
* Maintain accurate compliance registers and complete thorough reporting on maintenance activities.
Contractor, Supplier & Stakeholder Management
* Manage relationships with contractors and suppliers, negotiating pricing and service agreements to maximise value.
* Coordinate effectively with Lodge Managers, onsite maintenance staff and operational teams to prioritise works.
* Partner with internal support teams (WHS, HR, Aviation, Finance) to ensure safe, compliant, and coordinated operations.
Advocacy & Brand Representation
* Act as a proud ambassador for Outback Spirit and Journey Beyond, maintaining a professional presence across all lodge visits.
* Champion a "bigger picture" mindset that supports exceptional guest experiences and operational excellence.
ABOUT YOU:
You are a strong communicator, a proactive problem-solver, and a natural leader who thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments. You're comfortable managing projects remotely, juggling competing priorities, and stepping in with practical expertise when required.
YOU WILL BRING:
* 5+ years' experience in project management, maintenance management, or business operations** (remote or multi-site experience highly advantageous).
* Trade experience in electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, or a related field (highly regarded).
* Strong organisational and administration skills, with the ability to manage workflows, budgets, and reporting with precision.
* Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to influence, support, and collaborate across diverse teams.
* A proactive mindset and commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes for both guests and staff.
* A sound understanding of the tourism or hospitality industry (preferred but not essential).
