Waternish Engineering is expanding our in-house design consultancy as we broaden from a high-performing D&C mechanical contractor into a design-led technical partner for water authorities across Australia.
We're seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer (4–10 years), based at our Lonsdale Head Office, who wants ownership, variety and visibility across the full lifecycle — from concept through commissioning.
ABOUT THE ROLE
You will:
• Develop mechanical design packages from concept to detailed design (IFC)
• Design pump systems, pipework, valves, dosing systems, clarifiers, inlet works & ventilation/access
• Produce 3D plant layouts, mechanical details and fabrication drawing reviews
• Lead Safety-in-Design (access/maintenance, isolations, SiD registers)
• Support construction and commissioning, close out RFIs and verify as-built changes
• Help build standards, workflows and design outcomes
• Contribute to AI-enabled engineering workflows
• Work across national water & wastewater projects in SA, VIC, TAS & ACT
ABOUT YOU
• Mechanical Engineer with 4–10 years' experience (water/wastewater/process)
• Strong plant/piping layout and fabrication drawing literacy
• Solid knowledge of pumps, rotating equipment, materials and Australian Standards
• Strong communicator with a practical mindset
• Comfortable adopting modern and AI-enabled design tools
• Curious, collaborative and takes ownership
