The Justice and Community Safety Directorate (JACS) works to maintain a safe, just, resilient and inclusive community in the ACT.
We partner with government, stakeholders and the community to strengthen safety, protect rights, support vulnerable people and enhance access to justice.
With over 2,000 staff and 1,500 volunteers, JACS provides legal, governance and emergency services across the ACT Government and community.
About the Audit and Risk Committee
The Audit and Risk Committee provides independent assurance and advice to the Director-General on the Directorate's governance, financial management, risk frameworks, internal controls and compliance.
The Committee plays a critical role in promoting integrity, accountability and transparency across JACS operations.
The Committee consists of four independent members (including the Chair and Deputy Chair), with at least one member required to have significant expertise in financial accounting.
Job Description
As an Independent Member, you will contribute to the Committee's oversight of:
* Financial and performance reporting
* Risk Management and internal control systems
* Internal and external audit processes
* Fraud control and integrity arrangements
* Compliance with relevant legislation and governance frameworks
* Cybersecurity and information management
Skills and Experience
* We are seeking two independent, highly skilled professionals with:
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills,
* An objective perspective and ability to provide constructive challenge
* Knowledge of internal audit and risk principles (formal qualifications highly regarded but not essential)
* We are also seeking at least one candidate with experience in accounting and financial management.
Eligibility and Requirements
* Independence from the Directorate
* Ability to commit to scheduled meetings and preparatory work commencing from March 2026
