About the Role:
The Western Australian School of Mines (WASM) is seeking a forward-thinking Lecturer to contribute to the next generation of mining innovation. Based in Kalgoorlie - the heart of Western Australia's mining and resources sector - this is an exciting opportunity to live and work at the centre of a globally significant industry, with additional connection to Curtin's Perth campus. The role sits at the forefront of a rapidly evolving sector, where automation, robotics, advanced sensing, and digitally integrated operations are transforming how mining is designed and delivered, particularly across Western Australia's leading resources landscape. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced academic leaders and industry-engaged experts, benefiting from their deep knowledge and strong networks across the mining and resources sector.
As a Lecturer, you will have primary responsibility for teaching and learning within the Mining discipline, contributing to the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate units. You will deliver engaging lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions, develop contemporary curriculum content in areas such as mine automation, robotics, and modern mining systems, and ensure students are equipped with the technical expertise and applied skills required by industry. In addition, you will supervise student learning experiences, including honours and higher degree by research candidates, fostering academic excellence and industry readiness.
Working within a collaborative, industry-focused academic environment, you will also contribute to cutting-edge research and applied innovation that bridges theory and real-world mine-site deployment. You will engage in field-based experimental programs, operational technology trials, and the translation of research into practice. The role includes active participation in externally funded research and meaningful engagement with industry partners to ensure teaching and research remain closely aligned with real-world mining challenges and opportunities.
Please note, this position is based at our Curtin Kalgoorlie Campus - relocation and housing assistance (including rental subsidy) will be considered for the right candidate. A locality allowance will also apply.
Candidates progressing beyond the first-round interview will be expected to attend a second-round interview in Kalgoorlie (travel to be organised by the University).
