Quick overview of the role

We are currently seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to join the team in a full-time capacity. This role assists with the development and improvement of financial management reports for internal circulation, as well as the monitoring of departmental finances. To manage and guide staff across the business to ensure transactions are recorded accurately, and to enforce a strong control environment. To support the Finance team with monthly and quarterly reports and budget variance analysis, and with continuous improvement in mind, and be available to assist on ad-hoc projects as required. This position is based at Currumbin.

What will you be doing?

* Monitor bank transactions, prepare weekly bank reconciliations, and advise on transaction coding where required.
* Assist in maintaining the weekly cash-flow forecast.
* Manage and reconcile petty-cash transactions, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with company policies and audit requirements.
* Raise weekly manual invoices for the back-charging of subcontractor fuel.
* Process weekly purchase orders.
* Post weekly salary and wage journals from the payroll system and collaborate with the Payroll Team to manage related data.
* Assist in preparing and reconciling monthly balance-sheet accounts, including general-ledger reconciliations, and post corrective journals as required for review by the Senior Accountant.
* Play a key role in the month-end close process, including posting journals, accruals, prepayment releases, and adjustments.
* Reconcile payroll control and tax accounts monthly to provide accurate data to key stakeholders.
* Monitor, investigate, and maintain the Goods Received Not Invoiced (GRNI) account to ensure accuracy and timely updates.
* Process supplier and customer rebates in accordance with company policies.
* Review and process monthly credit card transactions, ensuring proper coding and compliance.
* Support the preparation of timely financial reports, including quarterly Board Reports, Monthly Business Unit Reports with variance analysis and any ad-hoc analysis of issues as required by the Finance Team.
* Assist in preparing monthly BAS/Instalment Activity Statements as required.
* Assist in maintaining an accurate, up-to-date fixed asset register in accordance with company policies and accounting standards, and ensure that business unit managers provide asset transfer/disposal forms on a timely basis.
* Support the preparation of departmental budgets and cost reports.
* Assist in the preparation of interim and year-end audits.
* Prepare work papers for FBT and ensure supporting documentation is complete for Tax Accountants to prepare the FBT Return.
* Contribute to ad-hoc business-improvement projects to support the Finance Team
* Provide advice and support to managers across the business as required

What are we looking for in the successful candidate?

* Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting accepted by a professional accounting firm.
* Proven experience.
* Good understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements.
* Ability to create and enforce compliance with processes and procedures and adapt to changing circumstances.
* Positive team player with a can-do attitude and a willingness to learn.
* Focused, accountable and committed to meeting deadlines.
* A high level of computer literacy (including advanced Excel).
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to confidently interact with staff at all levels and build strong business relationships.
* Self-starter who takes pride in their work and strives for excellence.
* High level of integrity, ethics and professionalism
