This is a Recruitment for a newly created permanent position within the Department for an identified strategic priority in regard to public health. The role is a specified calling so you must have a relevant science qualification as outlined in the essential criteria.
The Environmental Health Directorate (EHD) is seeking to appoint a senior scientific officer to support the functions of the Health Facility Air Handling and Water Quality Advisory Committee to oversee monitoring, management and remedial action of :-
- air handling and warm water systems for Legionella spp., and
- water testing in water distribution systems for microbiological and chemical contaminants
in health facilities managed by health service providers.
The Environmental Health Directorate has a crucial role in managing environmental health matters at a statewide level. We deliver a diverse range of activities, including the administration of 5 Acts and 26 subsidiary regulations. As a trusted regulator, community educator and capacity builder, we work together with state and local governments and industry to protect the health and safety of the WA community.

What are we looking for?
The successful applicant will be expected to liaise with and provides high level technical and regulatory advice to the Managing Scientist Water, Executive Director Environmental Health Directorate, the DOH, other Government departments, industry, professional stakeholders and the public on environmental health water issues.
Ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including an aptitude to influence stakeholders. You will have high attention to detail and good organisation skills, with the ability to work in a team environment and on a range of activities.
This is a specified calling SC3 role and therefore a relevant science degree is an essential criterion to be appointed to the position.

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments). You will be required to provide proof of your residency status if you are successful.

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.
