Wavell State High School is seeking six passionate and dedicated Heads of Department - Student Services (HOD) to join our team on a part-time, temporary basis until the end of 2027, working 0.3 FTE (15 hours per fortnight). These roles are pivotal in supporting student wellbeing and engagement across Years 7 to 12, and require a strong commitment

About the Role
As the Head of Department, Student Services at Wavell State High School, you will be a key member of the school's Leadership Team, playing an essential role in supporting the wellbeing and success of students. Often serving as the first point of contact for parents, staff, and students, you will handle a wide range of inquiries with professionalism and informed judgement. Your decisions will be guided by a strong understanding of school policies and procedures, ensuring consistency and clarity in communication and support. This position is central to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment.
This role has the opportunity to negotiate an additional 0.7 FTE teaching component to create a full-time 1.0 FTE workload.
Your Responsibilities
As the Head of Department - Student Services, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
* High Performing teams of Form teachers who in turn lead class teachers to support the academic, social-emotional and wellbeing of the Year Level cohort.
* Liaising with student, school parent, caregiver as required (in consultation with school support services).
* Promoting capability and learning opportunities for all in our school community.
* Creating a culture of high expectations and promoting a positive learning culture in which all people contribute and are (leading year level assemblies, events and form teacher meetings).
* Enabling through capability, student leadership opportunities with a lived and enacted understanding of service and legacy.
* Designing a culture of respect through clear communication of school expectations and enlisting parent, caregiver support.
* Prioritising and managing responsibilities relating to student wellbeing, attendance, engagement, and behaviour in collaboration with the Heads of Year Team, Student Support Services and Deputy Principal.
