Senior Policy Advisor
About the Role
An opportunity has emerged for an experienced and technically skilled Senior Policy Adviser to join our team and play a pivotal role in shaping policy outcomes across the building and construction Industry. This position is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of strategic policy development and regulatory frameworks and technical standards.
You will provide authoritative advice on planning and development legislation, and influence reforms that support a safe, sustainable, and innovative built environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide expert policy advice on State planning and development legislation, building regulations, and the National Construction Code (NCC).
* Analyse complex regulatory and technical issues, preparing high‑quality briefs, research papers, and recommendations for government stakeholders.
* Monitor legislative and regulatory changes across jurisdictions and assess their implications for the building and construction industry.
* Assist in the development of policy positions, discussion papers, and consultation responses.
* Engage with members and government agencies to shape evidence‑based policy outcomes.
* Represent the organisation in working groups, advisory committees, and industry forums.
* Translate technical requirements from codes and standards into clear, actionable policy advice.
About You
You bring a strong blend of technical knowledge, policy capability, and strategic thinking. You are confident navigating complex regulatory environments and can communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Essential Criteria:
* Good understanding of State planning and development policy and legislation, including assessment pathways, development controls, and regulatory frameworks. This includes the Greater Adelaide Regional Plan (GARP) and the SA Housing Road Map.
* Good working knowledge of the National Construction Code (NCC) and related Australian Standards.
* Demonstrated experience in policy development, regulatory analysis, or legislative reform preferably within the building, construction, or infrastructure sectors.
* Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and influential research policy documents.
* Proven ability to build relationships and collaborate with government, industry, and technical stakeholders.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical information.
Desirable Criteria:
* Qualifications in planning, engineering, construction management, law, public policy, or a related discipline.
* Experience working within government, regulatory agencies, or peak industry bodies.
* Understanding of emerging issues such as building compliance, sustainability standards, digital planning systems, and building and construction sector reform.
