Port of Melbourne is Australia's largest capital city container and general cargo port, handling more than one-third of the nation's container trade. They operate as a landlord port and are responsible for planning, operating and maintaining port land and shipping channels. They ensure the port has the capacity and capability needed to handle cargo, and that facilities and infrastructure are developed and maintained as needed.

The Role
Reporting to the Senior Manager Sustainability, this is a 9-month fixed term contract with two main components: Climate Risk & Disclosure and Low Carbon Fuels for Shipping. The primary purpose of this role is to support the delivery of Port of Melbourne's sustainability strategy and objectives through effective program management, project delivery and business support.
Key responsibilities:
* Climate change risk assessments for physical assets
* Financial impact analysis and disclosure preparation
* Supporting ASRS reporting for FY26/ FY27
* Feasibility assessments for green shipping corridors
* Stakeholder engagement with fuel producers, shipping lines, and port operators
* Leading collaborative working groups on decarbonisation
* Technical and commercial feasibility analysis of alternative fuels
About you
You are an experienced climate risk professional who can hit the ground running in this fixed-term role. You bring significant experience in conducting climate change risk assessments, with a solid understanding of climate science and methodologies for evaluating climate-related risks. Your background includes hands-on experience working with physical assets or operations; whether buildings, facilities, infrastructure, or critical business operations.
You possess deep technical expertise in either climate risk or low carbon fuels, enabling you to provide authoritative guidance in at least one of these domains. You can convert technical climate concepts into language that resonates with finance teams, board members, and reporting audiences, with the ability to move between "climate speak" and "finance speak." You are comfortable working with climate risk registers from day one and need minimal onboarding to contribute meaningfully to Port of Melbourne's climate risk management efforts.
Ideally you will possess:
* Ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively and influence diverse internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders.
* Ability to think strategically, conduct high-quality analysis and make (or guide organisations to make) data-driven decisions
* Significant experience in climate change risk assessments
* Knowledge of climate science and risk assessment methodologies
* Experience with physical assets, operations, infrastructure, or facilities
* Familiarity with Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS)
* Ability to translate climate concepts into finance and reporting language
* Demonstrated experience and management of a range of various sustainability programs.
* Tertiary level qualifications in Environmental Management, Sustainability or a related field
