A high-powered laser systems company is looking for an optical engineer to join their engineering and R&D team.
Key Responsibilities
* Taking ownership of laser beam director and imaging subsystems
* Designing and prototyping high-performance optical systems for kW level laser beam propagation and tracking
* Specifying and evaluating imaging lenses within the visible, infrared, and thermal wavelength ranges
* Testing and evaluating optical components and lenses for diffraction-limited performance
* Working with suppliers to manufacture custom optical elements, lenses, and coatings
* Collaborating with in-house prototype and manufacturing teams to design housings and optical assemblies
* Interfacing with hardware and software teams to define and support optical imaging and tracking systems
* Providing technical support and mentoring
* Assisting in preparing work estimates and project schedules
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Hands-on experience with free-space Gaussian beam propagation
* Experience designing, testing, and assembling optical systems
* Proficiency in optical CAD (Zemax, Code-V, LightTools, etc.)
* Exceptional time-management skills to prioritize workloads and adapt to changing demands
* Ability to perform detailed analysis necessary to make data-driven decisions
* Capacity to work cross-functionally to develop new solutions
* Strong communication and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail
* Ability to acquire a Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) Security Clearance
