Tide predictions and sea level data are part of the Bureau's trusted national role for ocean services. We work closely with a range of partner agencies to provide a reliable national focus on tides and sea level data services that enable a safe, prosperous, secure and healthy Australia. Our small specialist team is seeking a highly developed ocean data professional to contribute to the operational excellence of the Bureau's tidal and sea level data services. This position sits alongside other operational specialists in the Marine and Antarctic part of the Environmental Prediction Services program. In this position, you will work closely with other specialists on production processes associated with tide predictions, ocean forecasts and warnings. As a senior specialist, you will play an active role in shaping longer-term developments associated with ocean services under the Bureau's strategy. In this role you will nurture relationships with data stakeholders and help shape strategic engagement across a variety of external agencies, ports, researchers, and international organisations. Your efforts will help ensure that the Bureau's sea level data services remain trusted, relevant, and responsive. You will take on a high degree of accountability for managing the national archive of tidal data and play a hands-on role in improving community access to this data. You will collaborate across groups within the Bureau on technical aspects of data handling and the Bureau's own observation network. You will proactively identify opportunities to improve sea level data systems and processes and use your influence to drive the continual improvement of our ocean services. Merit pool The selection process will establish a merit pool that may be used to fill similar positions within 18 months. The key duties of the position include The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to: • Lead the curation of tidal and sea level data with respect to the Bureau's services. • Foster strong collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders to facilitate the exchange and integration of tides and sea level data. • Oversee sea level data processes that support operational services, including tide predictions, coastal forecasts and warnings. • Respond to and manage customer requests related to the Bureau's data holdings and drive improvements to request processes. • Provide expert support and guidance on sea level data-related matters including data formats, data quality and survey metadata. • Collaborate across teams to strategically integrate and improve data processing workflows. • Contribute to the development and implementation of data management policies and procedures, ensuring best practices and compliance. • Mentor and guide junior staff in data curation practices and methodologies, fostering their professional growth and development. • Ensure compliance with all Bureau work, health, and safety policies and procedures, taking reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others.
