Job Summary
Bechtel is seeking personnel to join multiple existing and upcoming projects comprising copper/gold concentrators with associated ROM feed, ore handling, processing plant, tailings management facilities, and supporting infrastructure including water supply, power supply, maintenance facilities, offices, temporary and construction accommodation villages.
As Senior Electrical Engineer, you will work as part of an interdisciplinary engineering team to deliver medium to large EPC and EPCM projects. In this role, you will plan, develop and review design work of both in-house and external design providers.
You will lead the design, development, modification, and evaluation of electrical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure uniquely complex requirements of a project's electrical engineering aspects are met.
This role will be responsible for the electrical design of surface infrastructure inclusive of all HV power, air, water, fuel and reagent utilities services, and overview of mining bulk handling and process plant electrical design by external consultants.
Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project's ROM to tailings mechanical requirements are met.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.
Major Responsibilities
* Plans and conducts independent electrical work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of electrical engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on a medium size project or assignment in support of a global business unit.
* Leads, supervises, coordinates and reviews the work of a small to medium sized team of engineers and designers.
* Provides the technical input to meet procurement requirements.
* Reviews and makes recommendations of the electrical engineering aspects of bid evaluations and awards for approval by project engineering.
* Leads the design, development, modification and evaluation of components and processes used in the generation, manipulation, transmission, and storage of electricity utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
* Reviews and approves key calculations, licensing evaluations, design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders.
* Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management.
* Coordinates with client representatives to obtain their approval of electrical engineering aspects of the work.
* Develops conceptual designs for electrical engineering projects or projects having specialized or unique requirements.
* Supports preparation of estimates, staffing needs and schedules.
* Other responsibilities as designated.
Education and Experience Requirements
* Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
* Requires current RPEQ registration.
Required Knowledge and Skills
* Relevant work experience in FEED, proposal & detailed engineering preferably in an EPC/EPCM industry for large mining and metals industrial plants, power projects, utilities, oil and gas plants.
* Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, materials, and computer applications within the Electrical engineering discipline.
* Experience in design, procurement, construction, commissioning or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities or process plants is desirable.
* Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods and of precedents in the Electrical discipline and principles and practices of inter-related disciplines.
* Knowledge of related construction practices and the associated costs.
* Knowledge of application and coordination of 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools on a project.
* Knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to selection of design features within the discipline.
