Role Context

Eastern Suburbs Mental Health Service (ESMHS) is looking for a suitably experienced Mental Health Nurse to join our team of Clinical Nurse Consultants working within the Emergency Department (ED) and Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC) at Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick. Our service has recently relocated to the new Acute Services Building and is looking to expand our team.
Responsibilities
* Provide clinical expertise in the assessment and management of persons presenting to the ED
* Assess individuals experiencing acute mental health symptoms
* Assess individuals with co-morbid physical and mental health difficulties
* Manage acute crisis situations requiring a mental health assessment
While operating as part of the wider ED Multi-Disciplinary Team, the role is highly autonomous and requires skills in time management, communication, comprehensive mental health assessment, risk assessment, admission and discharge planning, problem solving, and a strong understanding of common medical and drug & alcohol related conditions that often co-occur with mental health needs.

Selection Criteria
* Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) and a minimum of 5 years post-registration experience, and post registration qualifications in a mental health specialty or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.
* Sound knowledge and experience of assessing persons within an acute environment
* Demonstrated understanding of nursing processes and their contributions to best practice principles
* Proven clinical leadership skills within the Mental Health program
* Demonstrated ability to conduct a thorough Mental Health assessment, including formulation and development of immediate management plans and strategies
* Competency in the use of information and communication technology, including standard office software, for email, internet searches, analysis of clinical data, presentations and clinical documentation
* Excellent verbal communication skills and be proficient at documenting the outcome of assessments contemporaneously
