Why consider a Locum role?
1. 1. Flexibility and Control
Choose when and where to work; take time off between assignments; balance work with personal commitments or travel.
2. 2. Variety of Experience
Exposure to different hospitals, teams, and patient populations; broaden clinical skills in diverse environments.
3. 3. Competitive Pay
Locum roles often offer higher hourly or daily rates compared to permanent positions; potential tax advantages if working as a business.
4. 4. Qualified Growth
Build a wide network of colleagues and mentors; gain experience in different systems and specialties; enhance your CV.
5. 5. Lifestyle Benefits
Work in regional or rural areas with unique community experiences; travel across Australia or internationally; avoid long-term commitments.
6. 6. Pathway to Permanent Roles
Try out different hospitals before committing to a permanent position; many locums move into full-time roles after placements.
7. 7. Independence
Greater autonomy in scheduling and career; often less administrative burden than permanent roles.
