Communications Engineer – BAI Communications
BAI Communications keeps Australians connected through critical communications networks, including the NSW Public Safety Network (PSN). During emergencies, our teams provide reliable access and support to over 570,000 daily calls across 400+ sites.
Role Overview
As a Communications Engineer, you will support and maintain the NSW PSN's P25 technology, ensuring continuous operation and rapid incident response.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and configure the Motorola P25 network using tools such as UNC, UNC Wizard, ZoneWatch, UEM, Provisioning Manager, CSS, Software Download, CPS, and core architecture.
Assist technical change management by testing configuration or software changes that affect end-user devices.
Provide level 3 escalation support and incident management.
Collaborate with L2, field, and NOCC teams to resolve issues.
Interact with clients to resolve problems and complete support activities.
Lead ad-hoc support, training, guidance, and fault restoration for BAICC and Service Integrity units.
Act as Problem Manager: investigate recurring incidents, root-cause analysis, identify work-arounds or fixes.
Estimate work and prepare quotations for out-of-scope activities and external bids.
Travel to sites for acceptance, testing, fault rectification and support.
Participate in after-hour on-call roster.
Qualifications & Experience
Advanced understanding of P25 land-mobile standards and core-to-field interoperability.
Knowledge of DC power systems and batteries.
System-level fault analysis and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent customer service, communication and presentation abilities.
Strong planning, prioritisation and organisational skills.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications or equivalent; or diploma.
Preferably 5+ years in a mobile communications engineering role within telecommunications.
Valid state driver's licence, willingness to travel interstate and work away from home.
Full-time on-site attendance required; remote work not available.
Australian citizenship required for security clearance.
