Position Title: Systems Engineer / Senior Systems Engineer Reporting To: Engineering Manager / Chief Engineer Location: ACT, VIC (other locations as necessary)Employment Type: Full-time / Contract
Role Purpose The Systems Engineer is responsible for the application of disciplined systems engineering practices across complex, mission-critical systems within joint and networked environments. The role supports both acquisition and sustainment programs and contributes to the safe, reliable, and effective delivery of capability throughout the system lifecycle. Key Responsibilities Apply systems engineering principles across the full lifecycle, including concept development, design, integration, verification, validation, and in-service support. Provide systems engineering support within joint systems domains, ensuring interoperability and alignment with multi-service and coalition requirements. Support the design, integration, operation, and sustainment of Tactical Data Links (TDLs), ensuring compliance with applicable standards and operational requirements. Establish, manage, and maintain system safety programs, including hazard identification, risk assessment, mitigation, and safety assurance activities. Manage software configuration baselines, ensuring configuration control, traceability, and alignment with approved system architectures and requirements. Lead and/or support engineering change processes, including impact assessment, technical evaluation, configuration control board (CCB) activities, and implementation oversight. Contribute to both acquisition and sustainment projects, ensuring continuity of engineering intent and effective transition between lifecycle phases. Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system specifications, interface control documents, safety artefacts, and engineering reports. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, stakeholders, and external partners to deliver integrated engineering outcomes. Skills and Experience Demonstrated experience working with Tactical Data Links, including system integration and operational considerations. Proven capability in managing or supporting System Safety Programs in accordance with recognised safety standards and regulatory frameworks. Strong background in Systems Engineering within complex and joint operational environments. Experience managing software configuration baselines and configuration management processes. Experience managing and supporting engineering change processes within controlled engineering environments. Experience working across both acquisition and sustainment phases of complex engineering programs. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Qualifications Tertiary qualification in one or more of the following disciplines: Systems Engineering Computer Science Electrical Engineering Mechatronics Engineering Software Engineering
Desirable Attributes Experience in defence, aerospace, or other regulated engineering environments. Familiarity with applicable systems engineering and safety standards (e.g. ISO/IEC, MIL-STD, or equivalent). Ability to operate effectively in multidisciplinary and matrixed team environments
