About Us:
At Anglicare Victoria our focus is on transforming the futures of children and young people, families and adults. Our work is based on three guiding pillars, Prevent, Protect, Empower. We offer a comprehensive network of services and seek to ensure the provision of high quality services that will bring about significant improvements in the life experience of the young people, children and families/caregivers with whom we work.
The program:
The Youth Justice Group Conferencing Program operates as a voluntary pre-sentence and diversionary option in the Children's Court of Victoria. Group Conferencing is based on restorative justice principles and aims to divert the young person away from further or more serious offending. The group conference attempts to strengthen the young person's family and community supports while identifying ways of restoring the harm caused by their offending behaviour. There is a particular emphasis on increasing victim participation and satisfaction with the criminal justice process. The convenor works from a solution focus and plays a pivotal role in supporting the young person following the group conference through the development and implementation of an outcome plan.
