Do you want to play a key role in strengthening financial governance and driving operational excellence for a community-led organisation in the Kimberley? Dambimangari Aboriginal Corporation (DAC) is seeking a skilled and motivated Accountant to join our team.
This is a full-time role, with the main office based in Derby, WA. We welcome applications from local residents and those living across the Kimberley region. We're also flexible and open to a hybrid work arrangement for the right candidate. Relocation support is available if required.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will ensure the integrity and accuracy of DAC's financial operations, including end-to-end transactional processes, budgeting, forecasting, and statutory reporting. You'll provide insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and help drive process improvements across the organisation.
Key duties will include:
* Oversee day-to-day financial operations including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and month-end/year-end close.
* Prepare and reconcile EOM journals, balance sheets, and general ledger accounts.
* Develop and monitor budgets and rolling forecasts aligned to DAC's strategic objectives.
* Analyse variances, prepare management reports, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
* Ensure compliance with tax obligations (GST, PAYG, BAS, FBT) and coordinate external audits.
* Identify and implement opportunities to streamline processes, improve data quality, and enhance reporting.
* Maintain robust internal controls and risk management practices.
* Provide financial analysis and modelling for business cases, investments, and strategic projects.
* Build strong relationships with internal teams, auditors, funding bodies, and community stakeholders.
What We Are Looking For:
You'll be a detail-oriented and proactive professional who thrives in dynamic environments. You will bring:
* Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field (CPA/CMA desirable).
* Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a similar role, ideally within a Not-for-Profit organisation.
* Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero) and knowledge of IFRS/AASB standards.
* Experience working collaboratively with Indigenous communities and advisors.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively with Indigenous communities, demonstrating cultural awareness and respect.
* If working remotely, capacity to travel to Derby, WA, when required.

We are the Traditional Owners of the land and waters along the north-west Kimberley coastline, extending from the Robinson River, just north of Derby to the Prince Regent River in the far north of the Kimberley region in WA. It has been our home for many thousands of years. We carry the cultural responsibilities of our ancestors to look after Country. Our Country is of great conservation significance, home to many threatened and endemic species, mighty rivers, coral reefs, powerful whirlpools, rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, and more than 700 islands. Dambeemangaddee are part of the Wandjina-Woongudd community. We all share a unique body of beliefs and cultural practices we maintain strong connections to our land through our Law, Culture, songs and stories. Dambimangari Aboriginal Corporation (DAC) is a small, community-driven organisation based in one of the most remote and spectacular regions of the Kimberley. We represent and work for the Dambimangari Traditional Owners, guided by Law and Culture. With a team of over 50, most of whom are Traditional Owners, DAC delivers a wide range of programs and services that support our people, protect Country, and strengthen culture.
