Islamic Council of New South Wales (ICNSW)
The Islamic Council of New South Wales (ICNSW) is a medium-scale charitable organisation established in 1976 and based in Bankstown, NSW. ICNSW delivers chaplaincy and welfare services across hospitals, adult and juvenile correctional centres, and educational institutions throughout New South Wales.
We are currently seeking a skilled, experienced, and committed Chaplain Contractor to provide pastoral care services at several Central West Correctional Centre (eg: Bathurst, Wellington and Lithgow), with possible travel to other regional locations if required. Travel subsidies are provided.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide non-discriminatory pastoral care to inmates, regardless of faith, gender, sexuality, beliefs, or cultural background.
· Offer a listening, non-judgmental presence to inmates and staff.
· Provide culturally sensitive support, including engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) communities.
· Respond to inmate requests, feedback, and complaints in accordance with Corrective Services NSW Custodial Operations Policy and Procedures (COPP) and relevant operating procedures.
· Design, coordinate, and deliver religious programs, worship services, and cultural observances. Assist inmates in meeting their spiritual and religious needs, including access to approved religious materials and practices.
· Verify religious affiliation for inmates requesting Halal meals, in accordance with policy.
· Support inmates on Release & Reintegration programs, assisting with connections to community-based religious bodies and not-for-profit organisations.
· Engage with inmate families during times of crisis (with appropriate consent).
· Maintain accurate records in the Offender Information Management System (OIMS).
· Report safety concerns, risks, hazards, or misconduct to the Client as required.
· Attend mandatory training, including Safety Awareness Training, upon commencement.
Essential Skills & Attributes
· Demonstrated ability to deliver ethical, trauma-informed pastoral care.
· Understanding of Islamic sciences, Islamic law (e.g: on issues such as fasting, prayer, ablutions, charity) and ability to communicate issues of religion in a sensitive work environment.
· Strong interpersonal skills and capacity to engage with individuals from diverse cultural, linguistic, intellectual, and religious backgrounds.
· Understanding of trauma, grief, loss, and spiritual distress.
· Ability to maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and privacy.
· Capacity to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary environments.
· Willingness to engage in pastoral supervision and self-care practices.
· Accountability to denominational authorities, peers, and relevant departments.
Qualifications
· Evidence of progress toward, or completion of, 400 hours of Basic Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) within 12 months of commencement.

The position assumes you are able to travel between Bathurst, Lithgow and the Central West. Travel subsidy is awarded. The salary is a FTE role where the salary is the pro rata equivalent of the full time subsidy of $80,000-$90,000.
