It extends along the west coast from Lancelin in the north to south of Mandurah and east to the edge of the Wheatbelt from Quindanning to Bolgart.
The Swan Region employs over 200 staff across multiple work centres (Mandurah, Wanneroo, Yanchep, Hillarys, Mundaring, Jarrahdale and Dwellingup) with the regional headquarters based at Crawley.
We currently have an opportunity for a Conservation Operations Officer (Fauna) to join our Swan Coastal District team at Wanneroo.
Under the general direction of the District Coordinator Conservation, this position: Undertakes surveys and monitoring of either flora, fauna, ecological communities or their habitats to develop knowledge and understanding of the biology, ecology and distribution of threatened species, ecological communities and habitats of conservation significance within the Swan Coastal District, with particular emphasis on monitoring the sub-populations of the Critically Endangered Western Swamp Tortoise.
Undertakes works to implement the actions in the Western Swamp Tortoise Recovery Plan and associated Operational works plan within the Swan Coastal District and assists other Districts where appropriate.
Liaises with and provides advice to internal and external stakeholders including the community groups and schools, state and local Government to achieve the objectives of the Western Swamp Tortoise Recovery Plan.
Assists with the protection of habitat and management of threats to the long-term survival of wild and translocated subpopulations of the Western Swamp Tortoise.
Implements components of the Swan Coastal District conservation program and the Regional Conservation Plan.

Selection Criteria Applicants should address the following four (4) criteria.

Demonstrated knowledge of and experience of threatening processes, biodiversity conservation and management, with a preference for someone with knowledge of south - western Australia's biodiversity and their habitats with a particular focus on threatened species, ecological communities and significant habitats.
Demonstrated experience in a broad range of biological survey and ecological monitoring techniques, with good skills either in identification, or assessing habitats such as wetlands or estuary systems of conservation significance.
Demonstrated experience in collating and analysing data, managing datasets, and using computer skills for report writing, spreadsheets and creating databases, integrated with GIS applications for landscape mapping.
Experience, knowledge, and skills in leading and managing teams, working effectively as part of a team and independently; showing a high level of self-motivation, and experience in the operational implementation of works programs.
