Job Description:
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial & Accounting Oversight
* Lead the monthly close process: general ledger, reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, variance analysis
* Prepare forecasted cash flows, budget vs actuals, and scenario modelling
* Design and maintain financial KPIs and dashboards (e.g. gross margin trends, wage ratios, inventory turns, wastage)
* Validate and review financial reports prepared by others; ensure consistency with operating data
* Oversee cost accounting, job costing, product margin analysis
* Liaise with external accountants, auditors and tax advisors; manage audit preparation
* Ensure compliance with all statutory, tax and regulatory obligations
Operations & Process Control
* Document, review and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across departments
* Design internal controls to prevent errors, fraud or oversights
* Audit adherence to SOPs and controls, propose remedial actions
* Lead process improvement initiatives: reduce waste, streamline workflows, automate reporting
* Ensure alignment between operational metrics and financial reporting
Cross-Functional Coordination & Reporting
* Serve as the integrator between production, sales, staffing and administration
* Consolidate data from operations, staffing, sales and admin into unified reporting packs
* Chair or co-chair management review meetings; present insights and recommendations
* Act as escalation point for discrepancies, cross-department issues or misalignment
Staff Leadership & Development
* Lead or mentor accounting/operations team members or outsource partners
* Develop training, accountability frameworks and knowledge sharing (build internal capacity)
* Oversee onboarding, performance goals and reviews of back-office roles
Strategic & Advisory Contributions
* Partner with you and the GM to assess growth initiatives, capital investments, new product launches
* Provide scenario analysis and risk mitigation plans
* Proactively identify financial or operational "blind spots" and propose corrective action
* Represent your interests; surface problems before they become crises
Selection Criteria / Required Qualifications & Skills

Qualifications
CA, CPA or equivalent accounting qualification Masters in Finance, Business, or MBA
Experience
7+ years in accounting/finance roles with
exposure to operations
Experience in food, wholesale, manufacturing or FMCG
Technical Skills
Strong ERP, accounting software,
Excel modelling, BI tools
Experience with advanced analytics, automation or systems integration
Mindset & Soft Skills
Meticulous attention to detail, integrity, strong communication
Comfortable challenging the GM/other senior staff tactfully
Leadership
Experience managing or coordinating small teams
Experience in cross-functional leadership in SMEs
Change Ability
Ability to design, enforce and evolve systems under ambiguity
Experience in transformation or turnaround environments
KPIs & Success Metrics (First 6–12 Months)
* Monthly management accounts delivered within 5 business days of month end
* Variance between forecast and actuals under defined thresholds (e.g. <5 %)
* Reduction in financial or inventory discrepancies (e.g. fewer unexplained variances)
* Documented SOPs for all critical processes (operations, payroll, purchasing, inventory)
* Regular, consistent reporting into owner / board level pack
* Positive feedback from GM, department heads, and external audits
Base salary
:
AUD $127,127 – AUD $142,428
(depending on experience, qualifications)
Superannuation
: add ~10.5 %
Bonus / Incentive
: include a performance-based bonus TBD
