Overview
Northern Beaches Hospital is seeking an experienced senior nurse to lead patient care in the after-hours period. The After Hours Clinical Nurse Specialist (AHCNS) works closely with medical staff and plays a key role in medical handover, patient safety, and escalation when deterioration is identified. The role supports nursing and medical staff, reviews patients discharged from Intensive Care, and takes the lead with senior medical staff during clinical emergencies.
Reporting to the Clinical Operations Manager, you will be well supported by the senior nursing team, Senior Medical Staff and the broader leadership team. This is a full-time role with internal rotations including Afternoon Shifts, Night Shifts, and 12-hour day shifts on weekends and public holidays.
Responsibilities
- Lead patient care during after-hours to ensure the right care at the right time by the right person
- Collaborate with medical staff and manage medical handover
- Review patients discharged from Intensive Care and identify those at risk of deterioration
- Respond to and lead clinical emergency calls in collaboration with senior medical staff
- Recognise deteriorating patients, implement interventions, and escalate appropriately and in a timely manner
- Maintain high-standard communication with all members of the healthcare team
Qualifications
- Full registration as a Nurse (level 1) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Bachelor of Science (Nursing) or equivalent
- Postgraduate qualification in Acute Care, Emergency Nursing, Intensive Care or Coronary Care Nursing or equivalent
- At least three years of experience in an acute healthcare facility in a relevant clinical specialty
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in both public and private healthcare systems
- Advanced Life Support Provider
- Cannulation

In This Role, You Will Have
