WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS ROLE

As the Student Communities & Leadership Manager, you'll drive the strategy, development, and delivery of USU's Clubs & Societies program – supporting more than 200 clubs and thousands of student leaders.

You'll also oversee student volunteering, wellbeing, and leadership initiatives that build belonging, skills, and connection across campus.

This is a role for a big-picture thinker and hands-on leader who thrives on empowering others.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Lead a passionate team across clubs & societies, volunteering, student voice, wellbeing, and leadership programs.

Manage one of Australia's largest student clubs' programs - ensuring clubs are safe, supported, and thriving.

Oversee student leadership training and development programs that inspire confidence and capability in student leaders.

Drive governance, compliance, and safety processes that ensure students can run events and programs with confidence.

Support volunteering opportunities that give students purpose and connection beyond the classroom.

Collaborate with students, USU teams, and the University to create a vibrant, safe, and inclusive campus culture.

Manage budgets, policies, and reporting to ensure programs run efficiently and sustainably.

WHAT YOU BRING

5+ years' experience in event, project, or program management (youth or community focus ideal).

Proven leadership skills – you inspire, develop, and motivate staff and volunteers.

Strong knowledge of governance, compliance, and program development.

Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.

Experience with budgets, reporting, and data-driven decision making.

A collaborative, adaptable mindset – you thrive in fast-paced, evolving environments.

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (or equivalent experience).

ABOUT THE USU

The USU (University of Sydney Union) is proudly Australia's oldest and largest not-for-profit student organisation, dedicated to providing students with the best possible university experience.

Led by a student board elected by our members, the USU provides fun things on campus, such as festivals, events and parties. We manage a diverse range of programs, including an active volunteering program and a Language Exchange, to name a few. In addition, we support over 200 Clubs and Societies as well as operate bars, food and retail outlets across campus, providing great coffee, affordable fresh food, graduation gown hire and official USYD merchandise.
