About The Opportunity
As an Emergency Nurse Practitioner, you'll play a key role in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients presenting to the ED. You'll work both independently and collaboratively with the on-call GPVMOs, supported by a capable team of nurses and allied health professionals.
Typical Duties Include
* Performing comprehensive clinical assessments
* Requesting and interpreting diagnostic tests and imaging
* Developing management and treatment plans
* Supporting and advising nursing and medical staff
* Contributing to fatigue management and workflow within the ED
Shifts run from 0800–1800, seven days a week, with some flexibility as required.
About Our Team
You'll be working alongside an experienced and endorsed Nurse Practitioner who has helped develop this role over the past three years. The department is also supported by a roster of GP Visiting Medical Officers with diverse specialty skills — including anaesthetics and obstetrics/gynaecology — as well as a highly competent and collaborative nursing, radiography, and support team. The culture is friendly, team-oriented, and grounded in mutual respect and shared learning.
About the Location
Singleton is a historic town located just an hour west of Newcastle and the coast. Known for its rich heritage, thriving agriculture, and close ties to the region's mining and energy industries, Singleton offers a blend of country charm and modern convenience.
Our Level 3 District Hospital Emergency Department has six treatment spaces and manages around 18,000 presentations each year (an average of 50 per day). While the majority of cases are lower acuity (Category 4 and 5), the department is well-regarded by the local community for delivering safe, high-quality emergency care close to home. While the facility is on trauma bypass, there's no shortage of interesting presentations, with occasional acute or complex cases requiring stabilisation and transfer.
What Support We Can Provide You
You'll be well supported by the co-located Nurse Practitioner with whom you'll share the role. Orientation will include time to become familiar with local systems, protocols, and workflows.
Ongoing Professional Development Is Encouraged And Supported, Including
* 10% paid non-clinical time for professional activities
* Access to education via the NP Network with an active framework for education
* Emergency Stream allocated education sessions (EMET program)
* Learning resources through CIAP (Clinical Information Access Portal)
* Opportunities for networking and skill development across the local health district
This is an excellent opportunity for an Emergency Nurse Practitioner who values autonomy, teamwork, and the rewards of rural practice in a welcoming and well-supported environment.
