* $81,868 - $112,431 + up to 15.4% Superannuation (Includes scheduled March 2026 pay increase in accordance with the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement 2024. Applicants commencing prior to the pay increase will be appointed within the pay range of $79,176 - $108,734)

The Role
Under limited direction, the successful applicant will become an important member of a multi-disciplinary team that conducts laboratory testing, and periodic field trials measuring the infrared (IR) radiation signature of military platforms at Defence test ranges in Australia and occasionally overseas. Duties will include developing and deploying moderately complex electronic systems including design, construction, test and evaluation of data acquisition systems. Interfacing and integrating hardware and control software to existing and new scientific grade technological systems.

You will also be expected to extend your skill set to be able to provide technical support, such as calibration, maintenance and testing of traditional and custom-designed radiation measurement equipment and tracking systems.

About our Team
The Electromagnetic Signatures (EMSIG) group and Infra-Red Signatures-Aerospace (IRSA) Discipline are responsible for the measurement and modelling of ADF Platform infrared radiation signatures. Generation of validated IR signature models for aircraft and missiles is undertaken in support of survivability and intelligence objectives. IRSA works in an integrated team with Electronic Warfare Self Protection elements of DSTG and the Australian Defence Force. EMSIG/IRSA is partnered with industry and academia.

Our Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a motivated and resourceful team member with technical qualifications and experience, relevant to working with electronics, sensors & digital hardware.
The successful candidate will possess the following skills, knowledge and attributes:

* Associate Diploma or Associate Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering plus more than 2 years industrial experience, or an Electrical / Electronic Engineering degree.
* Ability to operate and integrate moderately complex electronic-based test equipment, establish data acquisition systems and work with software/hardware interfaces.
* Ability to analyse these systems, and to diagnose and correct faults.
* Capacity to adapt to changing work priorities and the ability to broaden skill base from that encompassed by formal training and technical background.
* Demonstrated ability to apply a high degree of technical judgement and initiative in resolving problems and the personal drive to carry out a task from its inception through to completion.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with Defence personnel on technical matters.
* Ability to work within a team environment in remote trial locations in time-critical situations.
* Some basic mechanical aptitude for running repairs in a field trial environment.
* Knowledge of Electro-optic and IR Sensors is useful but not essential.
