Graduate Chemist
About the Role
AmSpec Australia is offering an exciting Graduate Chemist opportunity. This 12-month fixed term role provides science graduates with a strong and well-rounded start to their careers, offering hands on experience in laboratory testing methods, quality control systems, and project work within a NATA accredited laboratory. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates may be considered for a Chemist position within AmSpec.
This role is perfect for graduates looking to develop their expertise in analytical chemistry while working with an industry leader in independent testing, inspection and certification who specialises in technical services to the Oil, Gas and Chemical sector (exploration, production, refining, storage, transportation) and to the Marine, Minerals and Agricultural sectors.
Key Responsibilities
* Reporting direct to a mentor.
* Contribute to laboratory quality systems.
* Participate in safety, quality and operational meetings.
* Undertake shift rotations while completing training to build competency.
* Perform routine testing of fuel samples using industry-standard methods.
* Conduct project work and investigations under the leadership of chemists/management.
* Prepare and analyse samples safely and accurately using various laboratory techniques.
* Adhere to all safety standards, PPE requirements, and contribute to a clean, hazard-free workplace.
About You
We are seeking motivated science graduates who are eager to learn, contribute, display flexibility and are passionate about laboratory work in the oil and gas industry.
Essential
* Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) – completed or close to completion.
* Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
* Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
* Knowledge of laboratory procedures and standards.
* Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word).
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
* Available to work on rotating shift rosters as this role requires working evenings and occasional weekends.
Desirable
* Previous experience in an ISO and NATA accredited laboratory focused on analysing Petroleum products using ASTM methods.
* Exposure to instrumentation such as XRF, UV-Vis, JFTOT, HPLC, Distillation Unit, Flash Point closed cup, FBT Analyser, Particle Count Instrument, Automated Titration units, Density Meter, Multitek Sulfur and Nitrogen Analyser.
