About the Role As Senior Estimator, you’ll be a critical contributor to Homestead’s tendering and pricing function, helping shape successful bids that win meaningful work. You’ll be responsible for developing detailed cost estimates across a diverse portfolio — including commercial, residential, and civil projects and will collaborate closely with project managers, subcontractors, and leadership. This is a hands-on, performance-focused role. You’ll have the tools, technology (Procore, Excel), and support to own the estimating process from concept to submission. You’ll also bring confidence to client conversations, using your expertise to get involved in presenting proposals, negotiate inclusions, and ensure financial transparency. Key Responsibilities Estimating & Tendering Prepare detailed cost estimates including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing Analyse drawings, specifications, and project requirements to identify cost drivers and scope Perform accurate quantity take-offs and develop pricing schedules Coordinate and submit competitive tenders, ensuring all bid documentation is complete and accurate Client & Internal Collaboration Present costings and proposals to the CFO, senior team, and clients Engage with clients to clarify estimates, gather feedback, and negotiate inclusions/exclusions Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive pricing Collaborate closely with sales, design, and project teams to ensure alignment from pre-construction to deliver Process & Commercial Oversight Evaluate and improve current estimating processes to enhance accuracy and efficiency Maintain up-to-date cost databases, reflecting current market conditions and rates Contribute to internal financial reporting and strategic bid preparation Support company growth initiatives, including involvement with development projects via Homestead’s land development arm (JWA). What You’ll Bring 5–7 years of construction estimating experience, ideally in both commercial and residential environments Strong technical knowledge of NZ construction methods and cost structures Proficiency in software such as Procore, Excel, and estimating platforms Excellent written and verbal communication, with a professional but confident style Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications Strong commercial acumen — able to negotiate, push back when needed, and balance cost with quality Highly organised with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field preferred Why Join Homestead?
