Power systems operations manager

Sydney
Evoenergy ACT
Posted: 12 February
Offer description

This is a rare opportunity to take operational responsibility for a live electricity sub-transmission and distribution network serving over 200,000 customers, while directly shaping how that network will be operated as distributed energy, grid automation and system complexity accelerates.

About The Role

Are you ready to lead the real‑time operation of one of Canberra's most critical infrastructure systems? Evoenergy is looking for a Power Systems Operations Manager to guide the safe, secure and reliable performance of our electricity network as it evolves through major industry transformation.

As a senior leader within our Asset Management Group, you'll be at the heart of how our network operates today, while shaping what system operations will look like tomorrow. This is a unique opportunity to influence strategy, strengthen operational capability, and drive readiness for a future built on automation, increased Customer Energy Resources (CER), and an emerging Distribution System Operator (DSO) model.

In this pivotal position, you will oversee Evoenergy's real-time operational control, network readiness and resilience, and emergency management capability. You'll ensure the network operates within safe limits under all conditions, safeguard critical operational systems and data, and act as a key decision-maker during significant events. This role plays an essential part in how we manage operational risk, support major incidents, and integrate new assets and technologies into live service.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the secure, safe and reliable real-time operation of Evoenergy's electricity network, managing voltage, loading, switching, and system security risks.
Provide strategic leadership across system operations, ensuring the network performs effectively under both normal and abnormal operating conditions.
Act as the custodian of access to our network, enabling maintenance and capital works while ensuring safety, protecting reliability and supporting customer outcomes.
Strengthen Evoenergy's emergency management capability by overseeing preparedness, response and recovery for major events and system incidents.
Define operational readiness requirements and approve the commissioning and energisation of new assets, systems and protection schemes.
Drive uplift of SCADA, ADMS, ArcFM and associated operational technologies, shaping future operational use cases and capability development.

Our ideal candidate

Degree qualifications in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
Extensive senior experience in real-time electricity network operations, including system security, operational risk management and emergency response.
Deep technical knowledge of network infrastructure, protection, control systems and field operations, and how these integrate into live operational environments.
Proven leadership of operational teams, with experience managing workforce capability, succession planning and complex organisational change.
Strong commercial, regulatory and risk-management acumen, with the ability to advise and influence senior leaders and external stakeholders.
