Position Overview

THIS IS A FIXED-TERM (UNTIL 31 DECEMBER 2027), FULL-TIME POSITION (WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF EXTENSION OR PERMANENCY)

THIS POSITION IS BASED IN BROOME

Stretching from the Pilbara Region in the south to the Northern Territory border in the east, the Kimberley Region manages over 3,800,000 hectares of land and water on behalf of the Western Australian community. Visitor highlights include Purnululu, Windjana Gorge, Geikie Gorge and Tunnel Creek national parks, as well as world‐class marine‐based experiences including Horizontal Falls and Montgomery Reef.

The region has two major work centres: one in Broome which accommodates the regional office and West Kimberley District; the other in Kununurra (East Kimberley District).

Key Responsibilities

* Plan and implement the conservation service in the West Kimberley District, leading the conservation team and liaising with the District Manager, Regional Leader Conservation and the district corporate team.
* Direct, coordinate, prepare and deliver wildlife conservation plans, threat abatement programmes, area management plans and monitoring programmes.
* Provide advice on conservation and wildlife management matters.
* Collaborate closely with the District Fire Coordinator on district fire planning for prescribed burns and provide advice on burning strategies for biodiversity conservation in land management.

Selection Criteria

* Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in supervising on‐ground delivery of nature conservation and natural resource management, including a sound knowledge of threats to nature conservation and wildlife values and the measures required to rehabilitate and recover those values.
* Evidence of a high level of supervisory and human resource management skills and experience of high‐level leadership, including the ability to conduct performance development and management reviews.
* Evidence of high level oral communication and interpersonal skills and experience in effectively liaising and negotiating with other government agencies, industry, stakeholders, indigenous groups and community interest groups, and an ability to manage researchers, volunteers, contractors and apply for external grant applications. Demonstrated willingness and ability to work with Aboriginal people.
* Demonstrated experience in, and knowledge of, administrative and financial management including budget preparation, expenditure control and financial reporting.

Pre‐Commencement Requirements

* A current (issue date not older than 6 months) and satisfactory National Police Check.
* A current Western Australian "C" class drivers licence.

Eligibility

To be eligible for permanent appointment, it is essential to have Australian citizenship, New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent residency status. To be eligible for contract employment, it is essential to have a visa with entitlement to live and work in Australia for the term of the contract.
