Offer description

* Lead Barwon Water's enterprise-wide asset management capability and smart networks program
* Drive asset optimisation to ensure service excellence, customer affordability and future sustainability
* Shape enterprise decision-making and influence asset investment priorities

Barwon Water is Victoria's largest regional water corporation and a recognised industry leader, with a vision to enable prosperity - social and environmental, with a commitment to providing high quality and affordable water services and outstanding customer and community values. Barwon Water oversees Victoria's second largest city, major growth corridors and globally significant areas such as the Great Ocean Road tourism region, delivering water services to more than 320,000 permanent residents. Barwon Water is at a pivotal transition point evolving from a large regional utility into a more complex, metropolitan-scale operation. This shift is driven by population growth, climate change pressures, customer and regulatory expectations and the need for more mature, long-horizon asset management practices.

About the Role

Reporting to the General Manager Smart and Sustainable Infrastructure, the Department Head of Strategic Asset Management is an integral part of the Barwon Water senior leadership team responsible leading an asset management practice for a $3.9 billion infrastructure portfolio, ensuring assets are optimised, renewed and governed in a way that balances service excellence, affordability, sustainability and risk. A key focus for the role is to lift Barwon Water's asset management maturity, including the value and longevity of existing assets across dams, storages, treatment plants and network so that Barwon Water can confidently plan and invest across 50-year horizons and translate this into robust 10-year strategies to deliver disciplined 5-year investment programs.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the role shapes enterprise decision-making, influences investment priorities, and provides trusted advice to the Executive, Board and regulators, particularly through upcoming price submissions and a significant five-year enterprise capital program of more than $1 billion.

About You

You will be a highly respected strategic asset management leader with experience in leading enterprise-wide asset strategy across complex, network-based infrastructure environments (ideally water, but energy, transport, ports, rail, telecommunications or similar). You will bring deep experience managing large-scale infrastructure portfolios, underpinned by a strong understanding of network and facility assets such as treatment plants, networks and storages. This will include experience in asset strategy, governance, digital enablement, risk management and long-term renewal planning. Importantly, you are highly regarded for your ability to lead high-performing teams, while lifting capability and foster positive cultural change.

This is a career-defining opportunity to provide outstanding water, wastewater and circular economy services that enhance the prosperity of our region.
