As the Legal Counsel for our government client, you will support the General Counsel with effective management of the organisation's legal function and governance requirements. The role provides and coordinates high quality briefs, reports, legal advice, and correspondence for executive management including the CEO and Board on legal matters across a range of legal disciplines on complex, high risk / impact legal issues, legislative compliance or matters relevant to the operations of the organisation. You will also be involved in end to end management of civil litigation proceedings and represent the organisation in negotiations, meetings, working groups, seminars and tribunal proceedings about legal matters and initiatives. You will also work closely with internal stakeholders to identify issues that require specialist external legal advice, and then manage the procurement of external legal services, working closely with external legal services providers.
Suitable candidates will have been admitted to practice as an Australian lawyer and be in possession of an unrestricted Victorian practising certificate. You will have experience in the application of legal principles to a wide range of issues across a range of disciplines and in the provision of strategic legal advice including the interpretation and application of legislation in relation to matters arising within a large, complex environment. Excellent communication skills including the ability to write high quality concise reports, briefs and correspondence with well-developed oral presentation skills with an awareness or understanding of public sector practices and work environments is necessary.

Casual Loading
Please note for all Australian based contract and temporary roles only, the pay rate is inclusive of mandatory 25% casual loading. This excludes permanent and fixed term roles.
