Neurophysiology Surgical Scientist Role Overview
This role encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities, working independently as a scientific officer under the direct supervision and delegatory authority of senior scientists, surgeons, and neurologists. The position requires ensuring a safe clinical environment, with equipment functioning properly, and procedures conducted to maximize patient safety.
Key Responsibilities:
* Facilitating the safe and effective conduct of invasive and non-invasive neuromonitoring, including assessment of children with paroxysmal disorders for diagnostic purposes and epilepsy surgery.
* Accurate real-time interpretation of neuromonitoring with reporting to the surgeon is critical to this role.
* Ensuring the clinical environment is safe, equipment is functioning properly, and procedures are conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Bachelor of Medical Science degree, ideally with completed or enrolled in relevant post-graduate certification in Clinical Neurophysiology and IONM.
* Experience working in a Paediatric unit and demonstrated experience working with Special needs patients especially children.
* Demonstrated experience in routine, long-term, and intra-operative Clinical Neurophysiological monitoring. Demonstrated skill in preparing accurate EEG and VEEG reports for review by consultant neurologists.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and within inter-disciplinary teams.
* Understanding the stress factors associated with working within a hospital and especially the paediatric environment.
* Demonstrated ability of strong time management skills and prioritizing workload.
