Primary objective
Undertake a range of geoscience projects to build knowledge of the geology and resource potential of the Northern Territory
Context statement
The purpose of the Northern Territory Geological Survey is to attract, de-risk and support investment in resource exploration and
development in the Territory and provide geoscience-based advice to government and the community. The Senior Geologist role will
contribute their technical expertise to a range of programs that can include geological framework and mineral or energy systems studies.
The role will develop, lead and deliver multidisciplinary geoscience projects to improve understanding of the regional geological framework
and resource potential of the Northern Territory.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Contribute expertise in geological framework and/or mineral studies to lead projects improving understanding of the geological
framework and resource potential of the Northern Territory.
2. Develop team goals, strategies and work plans in consultation with the Manager that support the organisation's objectives
3. Design, implement and lead effective projects, including budget management and reporting against milestones
1. Maintain currency of knowledge to ensure provision of high-quality advice and awareness of modern and emerging geoscientific
concepts and technologies
5. Undertake administrative duties including managing contracts, procurement and reporting in alignment with policies and procedures.
6. Communicate effectively to a broad audience across a variety of channels, support and build strong working relationships, negotiate
and problem solve effectively.
7. Build and maintain networks to facilitate two-way knowledge transfer with peers and stakeholders to improve outcomes.
1. Contribute to the acquisition, processing and dissemination of geoscientific data, adhering to data governance standards.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Honours or higher degree in geoscience from a recognised university.
1. Demonstrated experience in successfully leading regional-scale, multidisciplinary geological framework and/or mineral studies that
deliver on identified outputs and outcomes
3. Demonstrated experience in acquisition, QA/QC and processing of geoscientific data, and integration in a GIS environment
4. Demonstrated project management experience including design, reporting, timely delivery, and budget management
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to a technical and non-technical audience and a demonstrated ability to write and
review evidence-based scientific reports
6. Demonstrated ability to facilitate effective team outcomes, while building and maintaining internal and external networks
Desirable
1. Demonstrated ability to perform geological fieldwork effectively in remote areas and contribute to the development of, and adherence
to, safety procedures
2. Experience in procurement and contract management processes
3. Knowledge of the geology and mineral resources of the Northern Territory
