Join the Australian Army Reserve as a Part‐Time Soldier in a range of Trade roles. Work on Army bases and in the field, earning tax‐free pay while contributing your trade skills to support community infrastructure and military operations.
Base Pay Range
A$29.50 / hour – A$29.50 / hour
Your Role
As a soldier you will perform military duties and apply your trade skills in a variety of environments—on Army bases, during exercises, and on deployments around Australia and overseas.
Trade Roles (Responsibilities)
* Build, maintain and repair Army facilities and support local communities as a Carpenter
* Keep Army electrical, refrigeration and air‐conditioning equipment in peak working order as an Electrical Technician
* Power Army buildings and battle management systems as an Electrician
* Maintain Army vehicles and equipment mission ready as a Metalsmith
* Apply plumbing skills as a Plumber

Boost Your Income
After completing your initial military and employment training you could earn at least A$236 per day tax‐free. Additional amounts are awarded for time spent on exercises and deployments.
Minimum Requirements
* At least 17 years old, Australian citizen, and completed Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Mathematics
* Non‐citizen applicants may be eligible – see the ADF Careers Eligibility Page
* Fit and healthy; must pass a physical fitness test
* Successful security clearance
Specific Role Requirements
* Carpenter: Certificate III in Carpentry and demonstrable current work experience
* Electrical Technician: Approved apprenticeship or traineeship, and full‐time employment requirement for the trade
* Electrician: Approved apprenticeship or traineeship, and full‐time employment requirement for the trade
* Metalsmith: Qualified Welder 1st Class, Boilermaker Marker Off, Boilermaker Welder, or Sheet Metal Worker; completed approved apprenticeship/traineeship and full‐time employment requirement
* Plumber: Qualified plumber; completed approved apprenticeship/traineeship and full‐time employment requirement
