The Medical Oncology Research Fellow position is a fixed-term, 12-month role, designed to provide in-depth exposure to clinical trials and research in medical oncology.
This role is ideal for a medical oncology advanced trainee seeking to develop expertise in clinical trial methodology while actively contributing to patient care.
The Research Fellow will play a key role in the management of clinical trial patients, overseeing patient screening, informed consent, clinical assessments, and protocol-driven medical interventions.
Responsibilities also include the identification and reporting of adverse events, ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and ethical standards.
The fellow will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including oncologists, research coordinators, and trial sponsors, to facilitate high-quality clinical research.
In addition to clinical trial activities, the role offers broad exposure to medical oncology, with the flexibility to participate in general oncology clinics based on the candidate's preferences.
This allows for a well-rounded experience, combining both research and clinical practice.
The position also includes structured educational opportunities, such as participation in weekly unit meetings, multidisciplinary meetings, and monthly trial discussions, as well as engagement in the VMOTP journal club.
These activities provide valuable learning experiences in clinical oncology, research methodologies, and trial management.
Importantly, this position does not require participation in the medical oncology on-call roster or consultant ward rounds, allowing the Fellow to focus on research and clinical trial responsibilities while maintaining a structured and balanced workload.
College accreditation for this position may be attainable.
