Role Overview
The Systems Engineer is accountable to the CAF16 Engineering Manager and operates under broad direction to perform systems design, integration, testing, and assurance activities within an integrated workforce. The role requires deep knowledge of Defence engineering governance, legislative frameworks, safety regulations, and compliance obligations, particularly within the CASG environment.
The position supports CAF16 engineering governance activities and works closely with System Managers, vendors, and Defence stakeholders to ensure engineering artefacts, configuration management, and technical certification activities meet Commonwealth of Australia requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain engineering artefacts including Systems Engineering Management Plans and Technical Certification Plans
Support engineering and configuration management activities across CAF16 systems
Provide engineering and configuration management guidance to Engineering Managers and System Managers
Develop and review capability engineering requirements and procedural documentation
Act as the interface between the CAF16 Engineering Manager and CAF16 System Managers
Support development of systems engineering, technical certification, and integration documentation
Assist with preparation for Configuration Control Boards and JC2SPO Engineering Review Boards
Perform quality assurance on vendor-submitted engineering documentation
Assist with engineering audits of support service vendors
Attain and exercise Technical or Engineering Authority aligned to experience and qualifications
Develop and authorise Engineering Change Proposals within delegated authority

Desired Experience
Engineering qualifications and demonstrated engineering experience
Experience with CASG project engineering activities and planning
Defence or CASG systems engineering experience
Familiarity with Systems Engineering Management Plans and Technical Certification Plans
Experience With Requirements Management And Engineering Planning
Exposure to software system safety, security, and technical risk management
Knowledge of Defence Command and Control systems or applications
Strong understanding of modern networking, computing, and operating systems
Ability to work independently with limited guidance
Advanced technical documentation and writing capability
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
