Details: Are you passionate about animals and science? Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced technical officer to join the Science department. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, an excellent communicator, and capable of supporting teachers and CIT staff in an animal and laboratory environment.
Joining a small team, the primary focus of the technical officer role is to provide technical and laboratory support in science (animal and lab) classes, and to maintain Work Health and Safety (WHS) and compliance in the CIT Science laboratories. Previous experience in an Animal Care and Lab environment is essential.
Technical Officer will be required to:
* Prepare for and service animal and lab classes in the Science department and liaise with teaching and support staff across the department.
* Overseeing the welfare and enrichment of animals on campus.
* Assist teaching staff with student demonstrations and supervision.
* Maintain and monitor WHS requirements in the laboratory and teaching spaces, safe handling and storage of chemicals, maintenance of equipment and general housekeeping.
* Maintain resources and consumables including security and stock control, purchasing, and compliant chemical holdings.
* Ensure laboratories and general workspaces are consistently cleaned and are maintained in a clean and orderly manner.
* Use CIT digital systems to maintain appropriate records.
* Complete ad hoc tasks as directed by the Head of Department to support teaching and learning activities across the department.
Eligibility/Other requirements:
MANDATORY
* Diploma in Science qualification and/or relevant experience appropriate to the duties of the position.
Notes: This is a permanent position available immediately. This position is part-time at (22:03) hours per week and the full-time salary noted above will be pro-rata.
