About the Position

The Data Analytics and Modelling section of the Evaluation and Data branch of the Australian Research Council are seeking an APS6 Data Analyst. This successful candidate will be responsible for collecting, processing and analysing data from various sources, utilizing data, code and automation to contribute to complex data analytics projects.

These data analytics projects include research funding policy modelling, research evaluation and metric design, preparation of advanced descriptive statistics and preparation of related forecasts. They will collaborate with Data Scientists, Data Engineers and senior staff, as well as work with a variety of stakeholders to develop products that meet the ARC's data requirements.

The Data Analyst will translate their analyses into reports, dashboards and other visualisation content to present their findings to diverse audiences. This role will also involve contributing to the design and implementation of data governance, data request procedures, and infrastructure enhancements to improve the ARC's data capabilities.

Duties and Tasks

* Provide timely, quality data support and services across the ARC, including analysing, interpreting, and undertaking quality assurance of data and data sets.
* Design and implement principles and techniques for collecting and organising data, then interpreting, visualizing and presenting quantifiable data analysis in the research evaluation space.
* Preparing reports, briefs, and other documents on your analysis to a high standard for a varied audience.
* Providing technical advice and expertise on data analytics issues, methods and tools.
* Contribute to good documentation practices that enable replicate processes for analysis, evaluation, monitoring and quality improvement.
* Maintain and develop technical knowledge through learning and development activities.
* Contributing to the achievement of organization objectives, business and operational plans.

Required Skills and Knowledge

* Well-developed critical thinking skills to utilize multiple data sources and related information to distill key issues.
* Sound technical skills, including proficiency with or ability to learn various programming software and data management products, such as Visual Server/SQL Server, Python and Power BI.
* Strong communication, liaison and negotiation skills with demonstrated experience in building productive working relationships to understand client needs and ensure outputs meet their expectations when sharing, collation and reporting of data.
* Strong organisational conceptual analytical and problem‐solving skills, including strong attention to detail and the ability to develop and document consistent processes.
* Good written communication skills, with the ability to translate findings from analysis to written reports for both technical and non‐technical audiences.
* Expertise across a range of data analytics algorithms and tools and a detailed understanding of data analysis, translation and visualisation concepts.
* Preferred understanding of machine learning using Python for predictions of outcomes such as text classification.

Our work underpins evidence-based research policy advice to the Australian Government and delivers key functions including research evaluation, impact analysis, enterprise reporting, data governance, and data capability uplift.
